Bridge collapses in Indonesia: Austrian couple falls into ravine PHOTO/VIDEO

On the Indonesian island of Flores, near the popular Cunca Wulang waterfall, a suspension bridge collapsed, and an Austrian couple, Jürgen P. and Astrid P., were killed in the accident.

Footage circulating on social media shows that several planks on the bridge had broken before it reportedly collapsed within seconds, according to eyewitnesses, reports Kronen Zeitung.

“They were walking side by side and smiling at the camera. Suddenly, I heard a very loud cracking sound of wood breaking, like a large branch falling. Within seconds, the bridge collapsed and the tourists fell into a ravine about 20 meters deep,” one eyewitness said.

The head of the local search and rescue agency, Fatur Rahman, confirmed that the bodies of a 55-year-old man and a 57-year-old woman were recovered from the river beneath the bridge on Sunday.

The Cunca Wulang waterfall cascades into a narrow canyon resembling a miniature version of the Grand Canyon in the United States.
