There are reasonable grounds to suspect that on May 12, while serving as Assistant Director of Police and Chief of the Belgrade Police Directorate, he knowingly failed to report the criminal offense of aggravated murder, which he learned about in the course of his official duties, even though the offense carries a potential prison sentence of more than five years, the prosecutor's office said in a statement.

According to the statement, there are reasonable grounds to suspect that after 11 p.m. on May 12, Nenad L., the owner of Restaurant "27", contacted Veselin M. via WhatsApp because he knew him personally as a police officer and trusted him, informing him that A. N. had been killed at the restaurant. Veselin M. allegedly failed to report the information to anyone.

There are also reasonable grounds to suspect that on May 13, at the offices of the Chief of the Belgrade Police Directorate, he entered false information into an official Ministry of the Interior report and omitted certain important facts.

Specifically, he allegedly falsely stated that he had accidentally met the defendant Saša V. at Restaurant "27" on May 12, 2026, even though he had personally called him beforehand and asked him to come to the restaurant.

He also allegedly falsely stated that A. N. arrived at the restaurant later that evening, approached his table, demonstratively shook his head, turned around, and walked away, whereas A.N. had in fact engaged in a brief verbal argument with him and Saša V.

In addition, he is suspected of omitting key information from the official report, including that he was a family friend of the defendant Saša V.; that he was aware of the conflict between Saša V. and A.N., which had caused Saša V. to fear for his safety; that he had personally invited Saša V. to Restaurant "27"; and that, through an intermediary, he had invited A.N. to the same restaurant in an attempt to reconcile the two.

He also allegedly failed to record in the official report that, on the evening of May 12, after leaving the restaurant, he received a call from the restaurant's owner, Nenad L., informing him that there was a serious problem and that A.N. had been killed at the restaurant. According to the prosecution, this information could have affected the timely response of the police.
