Terrible storms batter Europe; Dead and injured; Tornado captured on video; Entire roofs torn off PHOTO/VIDEO
Severe storms have hit parts of Germany and France. In Germany, one person was killed and several others were injured. A tornado was captured on video, while roofs were torn off and trees were knocked down.
Three departments in southeastern France—Ardèche, Drôme and Isère—will be placed on orange alert for thunderstorms from 3 p.m. today, Météo-France announced.
Following intense heat on Wednesday, a stormy spell is expected, with heavy rainfall over short periods, Le Figaro reported.
Corsica will also be placed on orange alert for thunderstorms from 6 a.m. tomorrow, with locally strong wind gusts and heavy rainfall possible.
Fatality reported in Germany
Severe storms have also hit several parts of Germany, with at least one person killed, several others injured, and dozens of buildings damaged.
In Walldorf, Rhineland-Palatinate, a 58-year-old woman was killed by a tree that was uprooted by the storm and fell onto a covered area where she had taken shelter with another woman. The other woman was seriously injured and taken to hospital, Der Spiegel reported.
In the Westerwald region, the storm damaged at least two buildings, while pieces of façades and other objects were blown through the air by the strong winds.
A tornado was also confirmed in Fürstenwalde, Brandenburg, the German Weather Service (DWD) announced.
Trees were knocked down and buildings were damaged, including at least one roof that was torn off. Initial reports said there were no injuries, although later reports indicated that three people sustained minor injuries.
