According to preliminary reports, the driver was killed, while the woman who was also in the vehicle survived, Izvestia reported.

According to unconfirmed information, she is in critical condition.

Izvestia also reported, citing an unnamed source, that the deceased may have been a serviceman, while social media reports claimed that the target of the attack was a senior Russian military officer.

There are also reports that he may have been a Russian pilot.

The details and cause of the explosion are under investigation, while emergency services are working at the scene.

Footage released from the scene shows the vehicle engulfed in flames, with debris scattered across the street.

If it is confirmed that a senior Russian military officer was killed in the explosion, it would be another in a series of killings of Russian officers that Moscow has blamed on Ukraine.
