Russians fire back: "We're not pressuring anyone… It's reckless America to blame"

Russia is not pressuring Iran to continue negotiations with the United States, Russian Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vasily Nebenzya said.

“Russia, as a matter of principle, does not put pressure on anyone, whether it is Iran or any other country,” Nebenzya told reporters in response to a question about whether Moscow was pressuring Tehran to resume negotiations.

The Russian diplomat stressed that Iran is a sovereign state and makes its own decisions, RIA Novosti reported.

He also said the conflict between the United States and Iran did not begin because of Tehran, but because of what he described as “reckless and unprovoked aggression” by Washington. 

 

“The cause of the conflict is not what Iran did or did not do, but the reckless and unprovoked aggression launched by the United States against Iran,” Nebenzya told reporters.

He added that he did not believe Iran had failed to comply with the agreements.

“I don’t think Iran should be blamed for this,” Nebenzya said.
