Update on the Connection of the Danube Bridge Structure

The bridge will connect Petrovaradin with the E-75 motorway on the Bačka side of the Danube. Once completed, it will redirect a significant portion of transit freight traffic, reducing the number of heavy trucks passing through Petrovaradin and Novi Sad.The project will improve connections between the Subotica-Novi Sad-Belgrade and Novi Sad-Zrenjanin-Belgrade routes and the Fru&scaron;ka Gora Corridor, as well as the town of Ruma.According to Corridors of Serbia, the bridge consists of a northern approach structure on the Kać side (668.62 meters), the main bridge structure (505.75 meters), and a southern approach structure on the Petrovaradin side (488.62 meters).The bridge features two outward-leaning pylons with rectangular cross-sections, each standing 25 meters high.The foundations of the main pylons are supported by piles, like the bridge&#39;s other supports. Each main-span support rests on 37 piles with a diameter of 1.5 meters and a length of approximately 37 meters.The northern approach structure consists of four structural sections, including the span crossing the northern flood-protection embankment, while the southern approach structure consists of three sections.The Fru&scaron;ka Gora Corridor, scheduled for completion in 2026, forms part of the road route connecting Novi Sad, Ruma, &Scaron;abac, Loznica and the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina.The total contracted value of the project is approximately &euro;606 million. This includes construction of the Novi Sad-Ruma expressway, the Iri&scaron;ki Venac Tunnel, the Danube bridge near Petrovaradin, and all related infrastructure.One of the key elements of the project is the Iri&scaron;ki Venac Tunnel, which at 3.5 kilometers will be the longest road tunnel in Serbia.Construction of the Fru&scaron;ka Gora Corridor began on 1 May 2021 and is divided into four sections.The Novi Sad-Ruma expressway will have a total length of 44.41 kilometers.The first section, from the Petrovaradin East interchange to Paragovo, including the planned connection from the Žeželj Bridge to the Petrovaradin East interchange, is 14.01 kilometers long.The second section, from Paragovo to the beginning of the Ruma bypass, is 16.48 kilometers long.The third section, between the Novi Sad South and Petrovaradin East interchanges, is 3.4 kilometers long, while the fourth section, the Ruma bypass, is 10.52 kilometers long.The main contractor is China Road and Bridge Corporation, while Corridors of Serbia serves as the investor and project owner.At its northern end, the corridor connects to the E-75 Belgrade-Novi Sad-Subotica motorway. At the southern end, it links to the newly constructed Ruma-&Scaron;abac motorway, the &Scaron;abac-Loznica expressway, and the future Slepčević-Badovinci expressway.The project will create a direct transport connection between the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina and western Serbia. It will also connect with the E-70 motorway, improving traffic links between Novi Sad, Ruma, &Scaron;abac and Loznica, while strengthening Serbia&#39;s transport connections with Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia.According to Corridors of Serbia, the project&#39;s most significant benefits include improved regional accessibility, reduced congestion in the urban areas of Novi Sad, Irig and Ruma, and the relocation of transit traffic away from Fru&scaron;ka Gora National Park through the construction of the Iri&scaron;ki Venac Tunnel.
