Germany on the brink of war? Special forces on alert amid rising tensions

The Bavarian State Criminal Police Office (LKA) said it suspects an attempted attack and that two Bulgarian nationals have been arrested in connection with the incident.

The incendiary devices were reportedly thrown from a car onto the construction site around midnight, with at least one device starting a fire, which police extinguished.

According to a police spokesman, special forces had to deactivate a second incendiary device, Tagesschau reported.

A 38-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman, both Bulgarian nationals, were arrested in connection with the case.

Police are now investigating whether they were involved in the crime.

The construction site is located in front of the headquarters of a company that specializes, among other things, in security technology and communications for government agencies and the military. According to the company’s website, it provides radio monitoring systems and security scanners for military use, as well as measurement technology and cybersecurity products designed for civilian applications.

A day after an explosion at a substation near a power plant in eastern Germany, another sabotage incident occurred on Wednesday at a substation in western Germany, near Cologne. Politicians believe the incident may have had a terrorist motive.

Police previously confirmed that a short circuit occurred at the substation near Cologne after unknown individuals damaged high-voltage cables, causing several units of the Bergheim power plant to be disconnected from the grid.

In this case, police also believe the incident was an act “directed against Germany’s constitutional order.”

In Berlin and across western Germany, several attacks on electricity infrastructure and rail transport have been carried out in recent months.

In most cases, a left-wing extremist network has claimed responsibility.

Germany has also recently become a target of so-called hybrid warfare, which authorities believe is being carried out by Russia.

Regarding the latest attack of this kind, at Leipzig Airport, the German government accused Russia on Wednesday and announced new sanctions, including the closure of the Russian consulate in Bonn.
