"Kharg blown up": Trump threatens to seize the island? VIDEO

In the first known U.S. attacks on Iran since late July, two people were killed and two others wounded, according to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), which vowed to “respond and punish.” The IRGC also said it had shot down a U.S. drone over the Strait of Hormuz.

The U.S. Central Command said it had carried out “limited, precise action” against “forces laying mines and posing an imminent threat in the Strait of Hormuz.”

Iran responded by attacking U.S. bases in Jordan, state media reported. The Jordanian military said it intercepted eight missiles early Monday morning.

Iran also said it attacked Al Minhad Air Base in the United Arab Emirates with drones early Monday morning, Iranian state television reported, citing a military statement. The military said the attack targeted areas where U.S. forces and helicopters were stationed.

They said the attack was in retaliation for the killing of a Revolutionary Guard member and Iranian civilians on Larak Island.

The U.S. attack was the first known strike on Iran since President Donald Trump suspended renewed military strikes in late July.

Larak – A key point in the Strait of Hormuz

Larak Island is located just off the coast of the key port of Bandar Abbas and lies directly in the Strait of Hormuz, a vital maritime route for international shipping.

Iran is currently allowing tankers to pass near the island for inspection and is reportedly forcing ships to pay $2 million for passage.

Strong reactions from Tehran

Hosein Mohebi, an IRGC spokesman, called the attack “a strategic and fatal mistake by the Trump administration” and said that “the enemy will bear the economic and military consequences of this miscalculation.”

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, in a statement quoted by state television, said: “We do not seek war, but we will respond decisively to the aggressors,” according to AFP.

Iran’s Tasnim news agency, which is affiliated with the IRGC, earlier reported that the attack had been carried out using drones.

Several hours later, Iranian media carried an IRGC statement saying that the attack on the King Hussein and Al Azraq U.S. bases in Jordan had been carried out with ballistic missiles in response to the attack on Larak Island.

The IRGC said the attack caused “heavy damage” and targeted “technical infrastructure, maintenance facilities and positions of enemy fighter aircraft,” according to an AFP translation.

Trump’s post draws attention

Hours after the attack, Trump posted AI-generated video footage on Truth Social depicting an explosion at oil infrastructure.

One of the videos was captioned “Kharg Island Blown Up!!!,” referring to the major oil terminal off Iran’s coast that Trump had threatened to seize. The post provided no further details.

 

Last week, Trump said that all mines Iran had laid in the Strait of Hormuz as part of its efforts to block the route had been detonated or removed. He added that Iran had been warned that any ship or boat laying new mines would be destroyed.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi described Trump’s claim as a “propaganda” deception.

Conflict has been ongoing for six months

Iran faced renewed economic pressure after Washington announced new sanctions on August 24 aimed at further isolating Tehran and expanding secondary sanctions to its allies.

The United States and Israel launched attacks on Iran on February 28, prompting Iran to respond with attacks on Israel, U.S. bases and Gulf allies, effectively closing the Strait of Hormuz to shipping. The war with Iran has now passed the six-month mark.
