“They don’t have control. We have complete control. We own it, and at some point, maybe they’ll do something, and then they’ll be blown to smithereens. Right now, we’re in a very good position,” Trump said in response to reporters’ questions at Joint Base Andrews near Washington, CNN reported.

The U.S. president had previously said that the Strait of Hormuz was open, claiming that the U.S. Navy had searched the waterway for mines and was in control of it. However, shipping data did not support those claims, CNN reported on Monday.

Washington and Tehran have still not reached an agreement on reopening the critical waterway.

On Monday, Trump introduced a new condition in the talks, saying he would now demand compensation from Iran for what he described as its past wrongdoing.
