Novak Djokovic will face Jannik Sinner in the Wimbledon semifinals, and ahead of their clash, he emphasized that the Italian is currently one of the toughest possible opponents, regardless of the surface.

Djokovic and Sinner will battle for a place in the final of the London Grand Slam on Friday, while the other semifinal will feature Alexander Zverev and Arthur Fery.

Asked about the difference between facing Sinner on hard courts and on grass, the Serbian tennis player had no doubt.

“Anywhere, it’s difficult, honestly. He is such a complete player and he has improved so much that wherever you play against him, it is probably the ultimate challenge you can have in tennis right now. Alcaraz and him, but Sinner is number one. That kind of consistency in terms of results is truly extraordinary,” Djokovic said.

Sinner enters the semifinal as the defending champion and the top seed, and it was at Wimbledon last year that he defeated Djokovic in the semifinals.

However, the Serbian star pointed out that he was dealing with major health issues at the time.

“He is the defending champion here and he is raising his level with every match. He will certainly be fresher and more motivated. I hope I will be able to play and feel at least the way I did in the quarterfinal. I hope I won’t have any major issues like I did last year, when I practically entered the match against him injured. I hope that won’t happen this year,” Djokovic said.

The Serbian tennis player will therefore have the chance to avenge last year’s defeat to Sinner and try to reach another final of the most prestigious tennis tournament in the world, while continuing his winning streak on the London grass, which now stands at 106 victories.
