State of emergency declared in Arilje; Residents urged to conserve water

Due to the severe hydrological situation in the municipality of Arilje, a state of emergency has been declared in 15 local communities.

The decision was made at a session of the Emergency Situations Headquarters, with a state of emergency declared in the local communities of Virovo, Cerova, Dragojevac, Mirosaljci, Trešnjevica, Dobrače, Brekovo, Bjeluša, Visoka, Radoševo, Severovo, Latvica, Bogojevići, Grivska and Radobudja.

“The current water supply situation was discussed, and according to information from the public utility company ‘Rzav,’ it is expected to become even more difficult in the coming period. A detailed water restriction plan has been prepared,” the Emergency Situations Headquarters told RINA.

Residents have been urged to use water only for essential needs and to stop watering, washing and other activities that involve high water consumption. 

The municipality has ordered another seven to eight water tankers, which are expected to be filled with clean drinking water. Special attention will be given to ensuring water supplies for schools ahead of the start of the school year. Tankers will be needed for schools in Kruščica, Grivska, Latvica, Mirosaljci, Trešnjevica and Dobrače. If necessary, a tanker will also be sent to the school in Brekovo, the Emergency Situations Headquarters said.

An appeal has also been issued to residents who have their own wells and sufficient water supplies to help, where possible, neighbors and other residents who need water for drinking and watering livestock.
