Although Ukraine’s dismissed defence minister did not directly name Zelensky, it is clear to everyone that he was referring to his former close associate, who responds to every mention of elections by pointing out that martial law has been declared in Ukraine.

According to the BBC, Zelensky has still not commented on the video posted by Fedorov, whose dismissal sparked protests across the country.

However, a source from the presidential office told the BBC that “it is very bizarre to plan elections in the middle of missile and drone attacks. It shows a complete lack of realism.”

Meanwhile, two Ukrainian anti-corruption agencies announced that they were conducting a special operation targeting current and former lawmakers, as well as an official in President Zelenskyy’s office.

Several hours later, Zelenskyy’s office announced that Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Iryna Mudra had been dismissed, after local media reported that her premises had been searched.

In his video address, Fedorov complained that corruption was depriving the military of weapons and equipment and making it harder for Kyiv to win the war.

He also spoke about Ukraine facing a “systemic governance crisis” and said that the country’s political system “is afraid of change.”
