The fight against wildfires continues; Wind fuels flames; Situation critical in Deliblato Sands and Stolovi
Fight against wildfires continues across Serbia, with strong winds hampering firefighting efforts in Deliblato Sands, where low vegetation and grass are burning. In addition, all available resources have been deployed to battle the fire on the Mount Stolovi.
The fire in the Šumarice neighborhood of Kragujevac has been extinguished, while the rain expected later today could make things easier for firefighters.
The fire on the Stolovi mountain near Kraljevo has not yet been brought under control. The flames have engulfed several hundred hectares of mixed forest and low vegetation in inaccessible terrain, RTS reports.
Firefighting efforts continue to be hampered by strong winds, which blew throughout the night and intensified further this morning.
There are currently 40 active wildfires in open areas across Serbia. All of them have been contained or extinguished except for the fires in Deliblato Sands and on Mount Stolovi, the Serbian government said yesterday, citing a report submitted by the relevant authorities to the Operational Team of the Republic’s Emergency Management Headquarters.
All available resources have also been deployed to fight the fire on Mount Stolovi near Kraljevo, where the difficult terrain is making firefighting efforts more challenging.
The fire at Lake Bovan in the municipality of Aleksinac, where around 60 hectares of mostly grass and low vegetation amid woodland were affected, has been brought under control.
