Fire breaks out on Serbia-Croatia border – Flames engulf forest, low vegetation and dry branches

A fire broke out this afternoon in the border area between Croatia and Serbia near Ilok, spreading to both sides of the border. It was almost completely extinguished following a swift response by firefighters, Dario Bošnjak, Ilok Fire Brigade Commander, said.

The fire was reported by police officers from the Ilok Croatian border police station, Hina reported.

“The fire was burning on both sides of the border, and for now we do not know where it started. I believe this will be determined during the investigation. What I can say is that the fire has been mostly extinguished, and we are currently putting out the remaining flames,” Bošnjak said.

Bošnjak said that firefighters would remain at the scene throughout the night, “to prevent another fire from breaking out.”
