Supercell storms are forming around us; A tornado has also been forecast
Strong and potentially dangerous storms have hit parts of Poland and Romania, while meteorological services have warned of the possibility of supercell storms, hail, strong wind gusts, and locally even the formation of tornadoes.
The Polish Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMGW) has issued warnings for several regions after strong storm cells developed over southern Poland, including supercell thunderstorms with intense rainfall and hail, Wiadomości reported.
Meteorologists stated that the most affected areas are in southern Poland, including regions around Krynica-Zdrój, Dukla, and Lesko, where heavy downpours, hail, and strong wind gusts were recorded.
The warning applies to 17 counties and will remain in effect until tomorrow morning.
Meteorologists in Romania forecast thunderstorms with heavy rainfall, locally significant precipitation amounts, and storm-force wind gusts of 70 to 90 km/h, along with the possibility of hail.
In some areas, rainfall may exceed 70 liters per square meter.
Yellow and orange weather alerts cover large parts of Transylvania, Moldavia, Oltenia, Muntenia, and mountainous regions, where unstable weather is expected to continue in the coming hours.
Meteorological services in both countries warn that the situation is dynamic and that there is a risk of further intensification of the storm systems.
