“At a time of relentless climate change, the solution is to invest in decarbonization and the transition to renewable energy. Many global cities are facing serious pollution problems,” President Vučić said at the beginning of his address.
Vučić noted that free public transport has been introduced in Belgrade and that there are plans to expand the use of electric buses in order to reduce pollution.
“We also look forward to working with our friends from Azerbaijan on the construction of a gas power plant in Niš in the future. We have two supercomputers, and a third will soon arrive at the data center in Kragujevac. This means that Serbia must increase energy production — wind, nuclear, and solar energy — but we also rely on gas from Azerbaijan, and that will be crucial,” Vučić said.
He stated that a recent legalization law was adopted, which he said will allow millions of citizens living in unregistered buildings to legalize their property and become owners of their homes.
Vučić said that cities are environments where creativity, innovation, and various talents of young people are encouraged, and where new ideas and solutions that improve daily life in communities are developed.
“As hosts of EXPO 2027, we will provide a platform for the promotion of more than 140 countries around the world, which will present their creative and innovative solutions to the world, from music to sports. At the same time, we are also proud of the fact that EXPO 2027 in Belgrade will provide an opportunity to showcase concrete innovative solutions that can help solve traffic problems, improve mobility, and increase the quality of life for citizens, including new generations of electric aircraft and smart transport systems,” Vučić said during his address at the forum.
The World Urban Forum runs until May 22 at the Baku Olympic Stadium, under the theme “Housing the World: Safe and Resilient Cities and Communities,” organized by UN-Habitat.
The World Urban Forum is one of the most significant global gatherings dedicated to the future of cities, urbanization, and sustainable development.
