Vučić: Railway line from EXPO to the airport and Novi Beograd Railway Station to be completed by the New Year

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said today, during a visit to the EXPO construction site in Surčin, that there has been significant progress in construction since his previous visit. He announced that the railway line from the EXPO exhibition site to the airport, and from the airport to the city center, as well as the Novi Beograd railway station, will be completed by the New Year.

“The railway will be completed in full, both from EXPO to the airport and from the airport to the city center, by the New Year, so it will be completed on time,” Vučić said.

He stressed that the Novi Beograd railway station would be a magnificent facility and should also be completed by the end of the year.

He added that heating plants and the electricity distribution system have already been completed.

“We have to connect all of this directly to the Sava, and we have to work on that as well,” Vučić said.

He added that landscaping work was also still to be carried out, although such work cannot be done during the winter months.

Vučić stressed that Serbia must be the best possible host and said he was counting heavily on additional support from his Chinese partners.

“We have set aside the money; the only question is whether we can physically get everything done,” he said.

Vučić also noted that roundabouts and access roads need to be built.

“You saw that roundabout; this time we are breaking through to Jurija Gagarina Street, and we will certainly have to expand the roundabout on Vojvodjanska Street,” he said.

He also stressed that the national stadium is progressing rapidly.

“It is progressing quickly. Although it is less visible since the steel shell was installed, if you look carefully, you can see the excellent internal concrete structures gradually filling in the western and eastern stands, and part of the northern stand, while work has now begun on the southern stand as well. The roof supports are also gradually being installed, so things are going well because there will be no rain affecting the people working here. That is what makes it different from Serbian stadiums built so far,” Vučić said.
