A third drone containing explosives found; Military-grade explosive RDX suspected

German investigators have found a third drone and a suspicious explosive substance linked to an attempted attack on Leipzig/Halle Airport earlier this month, NDR and WDR and the Süddeutsche Zeitung reported.

The drone was found on August 14, 10 days after the incident, west of the airport, Reuters reported.

At the same location, investigators found around 50 grams of a substance suspected to be the military explosive RDX, according to media reports.

Security sources said they suspect the involvement of Russian intelligence services in the attempted attack, a claim Moscow has denied.

A drone loaded with explosives was found on August 4 near a Ukrainian Antonov cargo aircraft, which is used to transport military supplies.

Investigators also suspect that a second drone may have collided with a DHL cargo aircraft shortly after the airport was temporarily closed.

Leipzig/Halle Airport is a cargo and military logistics hub used by NATO and the Ukrainian company Antonov to transport military supplies.
