They requested an urgent meeting – the time and location have been revealed
U.S. President Donald Trump announced on the social media platform Truth Social that Iranian representatives had requested a meeting with the United States and that it will take place tomorrow in the Qatari capital, Doha.
"Iran has requested a meeting. It will take place tomorrow in Doha! President Donald J. Trump," Trump wrote.
As a reminder, Iran had previously withdrawn from technical talks in Switzerland following the U.S. strikes on the country.
Reports later emerged that Tehran had reconsidered and that the talks would in fact take place, according to several U.S. media outlets citing unnamed American officials.
Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said that meetings of the technical working group under the memorandum of understanding are not scheduled for this week, according to the Iranian news agency Tasnim.
Gharibabadi also stressed that consultations between Iran and Qatar regarding U.S. commitments are continuing as planned, but that meetings of the technical working group in Doha have not been confirmed.
Earlier, a source familiar with the discussions told Reuters that Iranian and U.S. teams working on the implementation of the memorandum of understanding were expected to meet in Doha in the coming days.
