Djokovic spoke to the Catalan newspaper Sport about his new documentary, “The Wolf in Winter”, his career, the sacrifices he has made, and his desire to compete at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

The film follows the Serbian tennis star’s career, which includes 24 Grand Slam titles, more than 1,100 victories, an Olympic gold medal and a record 428 weeks at No. 1 in the ATP rankings

Djokovic explains that the documentary’s title symbolizes his resilience and ability to never give up, even when everything seems to be against him.

“In the most difficult circumstances, you find inner strength and self-confidence that allow you to keep moving forward,” Djokovic said.

The Serbian star emphasizes that his path to the top did not come without sacrifices.

“Every journey involves sacrifices. You have to give something up in order to fully dedicate yourself to something else,” Djokovic said, adding that tennis meant he had less time for friends, family and a carefree childhood.

Still, he stresses that he feels no bitterness about it.

“That’s simply part of the journey.”

Djokovic spoke in particular about the gold medal he won at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

At the age of 37, after four unsuccessful attempts to reach an Olympic final, he finally won the only medal missing from his collection — the gold. In the final, he defeated Carlos Alcaraz.

“That was probably the most important moment of my life and career,” Novak said.

It was especially meaningful to him that his wife and children were there to share the moment, after which he celebrated the gold medal back home with the Serbian flag draped over his shoulders.

Although he is getting closer to the end of his career, Djokovic makes no secret of his desire to compete at one more Olympics.

“I would like to make it to the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. I think I can achieve that, but we’ll see. It will depend on how my body reacts and on many other circumstances.”

Djokovic now plays fewer tournaments than he did in the past because he wants to spend more time with his family and devote himself to other roles in his life.

“Tennis is still at the center of my professional life, but I want to find a balance. I hope to make it to the Olympics and end my career that way, with the Serbian flag on my shoulders.”

“I don’t regret anything”

When asked whether he regretted anything after watching the documentary, Djokovic gave a brief answer: “No. I don’t regret anything.”

The Serbian star says that both good and bad decisions are part of his journey and that he would not change his past.

“I haven’t always made the smartest decisions, but all those experiences are part of the foundation on which my life, my character and the person I am today were built.”
