Latest readings released: Serbia swelters as hottest city records highest temperature

At 1 p.m., the highest temperature in Serbia was recorded in Kikinda, where the mercury reached 38°C. Temperatures of 37°C were measured in Belgrade, Zrenjanin, Valjevo and Ćuprija, while the coolest location was Kopaonik, with 23°C, according to the State Hydrometeorological Service of Serbia (RHMZ).

A temperature of 36°C was recorded in Palić, Sombor, Novi Sad, Banatski Karlovac, Loznica, Sremska Mitrovica, Smederevska Palanka, Veliko Gradište and Negotin, while Kragujevac, Kuršumlija, Kruševac, Niš and Zaječar all registered 35°C.

Temperatures reached 34°C in Kraljevo, Leskovac and Vranje, while Požega and Dimitrovgrad recorded 33°C.

The heatwave is expected to continue until midweek, with maximum temperatures forecast to range between 36°C and 39°C across most of the country.

A red weather alert remains in effect for Banat, Bačka, Srem, Belgrade, Western and Southwestern Serbia, Šumadija, Pomoravlje, Eastern and Southeastern Serbia, while the Autonomous Province of Kosovo and Metohija is under an orange weather alert.

A slight drop in temperatures is expected on Wednesday, July 1, although conditions will remain very hot. From Thursday, July 2, maximum daytime temperatures are forecast to fall below 30°C in most parts of the country.
